Pope Pius VII Bulla Manuscript - 1821
PIUS VII (1742-1823) Pope from 1800-1823, taken to France as prisoner by Napoleon from 1809-1813, returning to Rome after the defeat of the French. Manuscript document, 1p. 23″ x 17″, Rome, August 1821, a vellum papal bull in the name of Pope Pius VII, in Latin (untranslated). The signature of several Roman Curia appear underneath the bottom flap. Attached to the document by a faded red and yellow cord is the original seal (“lead bulla”) of Pius VII. Some staining and holes throughout, overall very good.
