Jim Morrison
Jim Morrison
Original Autograph Framed - 1970
Offered here from our long-time personal collection is a bold, clear, original autograph that Jim Morrison signed on the verso flap of a cream-colored envelope. The finest materials were used in framing this fitting display: cocoa-themed Italian hand-marbled papers in a peacock motif border each windowed element, the top mat is lined with chocolate linen, all neatly positioned inside a cross-hatch brushed silver wooden frame.
The photo featured is from the famous “Young Lion” black-and-white series taken by Joel Brodsky—the same shot that was featured on the cover of the Best of the Doors LP in 1973 (released posthumously). Be sure to view this close-up in Zoom mode—Brodsky’s photograph is mesmerizing, as was Jim’s persona.
Jim Morrison was an American singer, poet, songwriter, writer, and film director. Best known as the lead singer and lyricist of The Doors, Morrison is widely considered to be one of the most charismatic and influential front men in rock music history. He was also the author of several books of poetry, and the director of a documentary and short film.
Morrison died on July 3, 1971, far too young, at age 27. In the official account of his death, he was found in a Paris apartment bathtub by his girlfriend Pamela Courson. Pursuant to French law, no autopsy was performed because the medical examiner claimed to have found no evidence of foul play. The absence of an official autopsy has left many questions regarding Morrison’s cause of death.
Because of his short life, and shorter fame when he was alive, Jim Morrison is among the more highly sought-after autographs since, much like James Dean, he was famous for a relatively short time before he died. They both live on as icons in their own worlds, with vast followings.
