Gertrude Stein Signed “Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas” - 1933
Literary Guild First Edition Hardcover with facsimile first edition Dust Jacket and Various Vintage Articles Pasted In
This copy of The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas is signed on the front free endpaper by the trailblazing modernist author Gertrude Stein. The book, the Literary Guild edition, has a small prior owner gift inscription on the half title page. Please see photographs. In addition, the book has various articles about Ms. Stein and her works pasted in on several pages and also laid in loosely at the end. No text is obscured. Please see photos. This signed book was purchased from the collection of the prominent Evanston booksellers and collectors Richard S. Barnes and Patricia Barnes.
The book is bound in black cloth and has some bumping to the spine ends and corners, as well shelfwear and edgewear, including small spots of wear-through to the bottom two corner tips. There is light darkening to the topedge and there are a few small rubbed spots to the topedge as well. The interior pages have some toning, especially on pages opposite photographs or opposite where the newspaper articles have been attached. Aside from the small prior owner gift inscription on the half title page, and the author’s signature on the front free endpaper, there is no writing in the book. It is squarely and tightly bound. Please see photos as to condition.
