“After Reading: Letters of Oscar Wilde to Robert Ross” - 1921
After Reading: Letters of Oscar Wilde to Robert Ross, by Oscar Wilde. Westminster: Beaumont Press, 1921. First edition. Hardcover Limied Edition. #384/475, Large Octavo. 59 (1)pp. Original gray half cloth over decorative boards with gilt lettering on spine. Illustrated endpapers and title page. From the personal collection of Elizabeth Leslie Roos, whose family founded the upscale Roos-Atkins men’s clothing store based in San Francisco, and whose signature appears on the inside cover.
A series of letters written by Oscar Wilde during the summer of 1897 after his release from Reading Gaol to his friend, literary critic Robert “Robbie” Ross. The title page depicts a pastel image of Chalet Bourgeat in Berneval on the Normandy coast, where Wilde had written most of the letters. Binding very good, fading to edges of cover with some foxing to top edge, pages fine. A lovely copy of this small limitation.
