First U.K. edition of Ayn Rand’s classic novel The Fountainhead, published in 1947 by Cassell and Company, London, inscribed with signed sentiment (without attribution), “With my very best wishes / Ayn Rand.” A lovely Near Fine copy of a timeless and very desirable book signed by a highly collectible author.

Rebound in beautiful quarter-bound blue leather with raised bands over blue boards. The book is clean with tight pages, and text block throughout is largely free of toning except on just a few internal pages, significantly less than is usually found in books of this age. No dust jacket.

Ayn Rand’s 1943 novel The Fountainhead was her first major literary success. The novel’s protagonist, Howard Roark, is an individualistic young architect who refuses to compromise his artistic and personal vision for worldly recognition and success. The story follows his battle to practice modern architecture while opposed by an establishment centered on tradition. Roark embodies what Rand believed to be the ideal man, and his struggle reflects Rand’s belief that individualism is superior to collectivism.
