The Gothic symbolist Adolfo Wildt (1868-1931), whose works have been underrated until now, is amongst the greatest of modern sculptors. He was not a man of the “atelier” but of the “workshop” in the old sense of the word. He appeared to be self-taught, but was the direct and accomplished heir to all the major western traditions of craft and sculpture. Through perfect reproductions, this volume gives an accurate philological reconstruction of his works and places the figure of the sculptor in the wider field of twentieth century European culture, to which this great artist rightly belongs. In original publisher’s clamshell case. Book Fine. Case has some rubbing on top left and right corners, spine label has slight corner tear and light marks; otherwise Very Good.
